Christmas Poly Mailers
Christmas is not a campaign window like Halloween. It is the period when a large share of the year’s parcels leave the building, when your team is at capacity, when temporary staff are packing, and when a packaging problem costs more than at any other time.
Themed mailers work well in that period — a festive parcel arriving in December reads as a gift before it is opened. But the packaging decisions that matter over peak are the operational ones: having enough, having it early, and having a design that does not create extra work at the bench.
This page is written around that, not around the artwork.

What peak actually demands from packaging
These are the failures that show up in December and almost never in June.
Enough stock, in place early
Running out of packaging during peak stops orders leaving. Order to your peak forecast and have it on the bench before volume climbs.
One obvious size decision
Temporary staff pack more slowly and make more errors. Fewer sizes with clearer rules costs less than a perfectly optimised range nobody can apply.
A designed label position
At volume, a label that lands on artwork every tenth parcel becomes a real scanning problem. Design the panel in.
Closures that survive a hurried bench
Seal failures rise when packing speeds up. A deeper flap and a written sealing procedure both help.
Returns capacity in January
Gift returns arrive after the season. A double adhesive strip in December saves a consumable and a step in January.
Ordering ahead without over-ordering
Two risks pull in opposite directions at peak. Order too little and you run out at the worst possible moment. Order too much and you carry festive stock into a year where it cannot be used.
The way through is to split the decision. Order themed mailers against a realistic forecast of gift-heavy parcels, and keep standard stock covering the rest of your volume throughout. That way a shortfall in themed packaging slows nothing down, and the quantity at risk is small.
Timing is the other half. Work backwards from when you need stock on the bench, allow a buffer before your volume starts to climb, and settle artwork well ahead of that. We confirm the schedule for your specific order in writing so you are planning against a real date rather than a hopeful one.
Christmas artwork or winter artwork
The design choice has a direct effect on how much of the order can be used.
| Row label | Christmas artwork | Winter artwork |
|---|---|---|
| Usable window | Roughly six weeks | From late autumn into January |
| Leftover stock | Held for a year | Runs on through winter |
| Gift signal | Strong and immediate | Present but softer |
| Suits | Gift ranges and short campaigns | General retail across the season |
| Order quantity risk | Higher | Lower |
Brands that ship gifts as a defined part of their range usually justify the strictly festive design. Everyone else tends to get more out of a winter treatment.
Peak-season specification
Confirmed on your quotation.
| Option | Choices | What changes |
|---|---|---|
| Design source |
| Stock designs remove a proofing round, which matters when the calendar is tight. |
| Coverage |
| At peak volumes the label panel stops being a nicety. |
| Closure |
| Gift returns arrive in January; the second strip is worth specifying in advance. |
| Sizes |
| Keep the range narrow so temporary staff have fewer decisions to make. |
| Quantity |
| Most operations do better running themed alongside standard stock. |
Options shown are the choices we can quote against. The exact specification for your order — including film weight, closure and print method — is confirmed in writing on your quotation.
A peak packaging plan
Forecast peak parcels, not peak revenue
Packaging is consumed per parcel. Revenue growth and parcel growth are not the same number.
Split themed against standard
Decide what proportion of parcels genuinely warrants a themed bag. It is usually lower than the first estimate.
Fix the date stock must be on the bench
Then work backwards through approval and production, and confirm the schedule with us in writing.
Write the packing rules down
Which bag for which order, where the label goes, how to seal. Temporary staff cannot infer any of it.
Plan January before December
Returns volume follows gift volume. Decide now how returns will be packed and by whom.
Beyond the bag
A themed mailer is one part of what arrives at a doorstep in December, and it works hardest when the inside matches the outside. A printed card, tissue in a matched tone, or a seal sticker all cost little and turn a shipped parcel into something that reads as a gift. Where the contents also need protecting during the busiest weeks of the year, the protective format comparison sets out which construction suits which contents.
Questions about christmas poly mailers
When should I order Christmas mailers?
Work backwards from the date you need them on the packing bench, and allow a buffer before your volume starts climbing rather than before your campaign starts. Artwork approval is where seasonal projects most often run late, so settle it early.
Should all my peak parcels use festive packaging?
Usually not. Running themed mailers alongside standard stock means a shortfall never stops orders going out, and it keeps the quantity at risk small. Most operations find the parcels that genuinely warrant a themed bag are a minority.
What is the difference between Christmas and winter artwork?
A strictly festive design has a window of roughly six weeks. A winter treatment — snow, botanicals, cool palettes without festive motifs — stays usable from late autumn into January, which reduces the risk of stock you cannot use.
Can leftover Christmas mailers be used next year?
If they were stored cool, dry and out of direct sunlight, and the artwork is not dated to a specific year, yes. Adhesive is the component that ages, so check a sample seals properly before relying on old stock.
Do I need a different mailer for gift orders?
Not a different construction, but often a different presentation. The same size with festive artwork, or with a printed card inside, is usually enough to make a gift order feel deliberate.
